ENGIE wins bidding for public lighting in ten cities in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Parnaíba regions

ENGIE, the largest private sector energy company in Brazil, operating in electric energy generation, commercialization and transmission, transportation of gas and energy solutions, has won the bidding opened by CIDES (Intermunicipal Public Consortium for Sustainable Development in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba regions) for providing a public lighting service for ten municipalities in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba regions of the state of Minas Gerais.
The contract will benefit the local communities covering the maintenance of the lighting infrastructure in the regions’ cities. The municipalities of Araporã, Campina Verde, Cascalho Rico, Douradoquara, Estrela do Sul, Grupiara, Indianópolis, Monte Alegre de Minas, Prata and Santa Vitória are to receive investments amounting to R$ 11.8 million.
“The project will bring benefits such a public safety and a better quality of life for the population of the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba. For us, public lighting represents an entry to development. In this context, ENGIE has been acting as a partner in various cities around the world through projects which combine intelligence, economy for the municipalities themselves and respect for the environment”, declared Leonardo Serpa, Chief Executive Officer of ENGIE Soluções.
ENGIE operates approximately 400 thousand street lighting points in Brazil, in cities such as Florianópolis, Joinville, Blumenau and Santos, as well as the private-public partnerships in Uberlândia (MG) and Petrolina (PE), where the projects are already operating and in the process of installation, respectively. Worldwide, ENGIE operates a total of 1.5 million illumination points. The company designs specialized solutions in street lighting and mobility that contribute to making urban infrastructure safer and more efficient and sustainable.
In 2019, ENGIE won the private-public partnership in Uberlândia for operating 90 thousand public lighting fixtures, generating energy savings for the city. Work is also underway for the installation of floodlighting of tourist attractions and enhancing the illumination of less will lighted areas as well as city streets where traffic flows are more intense.
