ENGIE winner of Curitiba Public Lighting PPP

ENGIE, Brazil’s leading renewable energy company, placed the winning bid this Wednesday (28) at the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) auction for Public Lighting in Curitiba (state of Paraná), held at B3, in São Paulo. ENGIE proposed monthly payments of R$ 1.1 million, a 71% negative premium vis-à-vis the ceiling as per the bidding documents. The 23-year agreement provides for operation, maintenance and expansion of the city’s public lighting infrastructure, with over 160 thousand light points.
“This is a long-term partnership that underscores our stance towards accelerating the energy transition towards carbon neutrality in Brazilian municipalities. Curitiba is a benchmark for innovation and displays exemplarily modern city planning, which converges with ENGIE’s commitment to making urban spaces more efficient and sustainable, using solutions to strengthen public safety and security, improve mobility, and promote energy efficiency,” said ENGIE Soluções CEO Jacques-Olivier Klotz.
Aside from benefitting society, PPPs provide a favorable business model for investors, as revenues are guaranteed by the Contribution to Public Lighting Service Funding (“Contribuição para o Custeio do Serviço de Iluminação Pública” – Cosip) – which is levied on power bills, which enables attracting players interested in developing Public Lighting projects.
ENGIE currently operates over 1 million light points worldwide, 130 thousand of which in Brazil – 90 thousand in Uberlândia (state of Minas Gerais) and 40 thousand in Petrolina (state of Pernambuco), two cities where the Company is already active in Brazil by means of Public Lighting PPPs.
