ENGIE completes upgrades to the Petrolina public lighting system and installs more than 35 thousand LED lights
ENGIE Brasil invested more than R$ 32 million to complete the modernization of the public lighting system in Petrolina (state of Pernambuco), where it became the concession holder last year. The funds were allocated to replacing conventional lamps and improving light flows, with benefits for 350 thousand residents.
Over a period of nine months, the company installed more than 35 thousand LED lamps, implemented a remote management system on the city’s main thoroughfares, expanded the network and implemented lighting projects for Petrolina’s monuments and tourist attractions. This will lead to more than 50% in savings on the municipality’s lighting bills in the coming years.
In 2022, ENGIE also carried out more than 7.6 thousand interventions on the local network, with average response time under 48 hours for the city overall. More than 40 employees were at the forefront of this effort, active in network maintenance and modernization activities.
As a renewable energy leader in Brazil, ENGIE develops technological solutions to turn cities into smarter and more energy-efficient spaces. The Group currently operates 130 thousand light points throughout Brazil through its concessions in Petrolina and Uberlandia (state of Minas Gerais). It is also preparing to commence operations in the city of Curitiba (the Paraná state capital) in the coming months, after confirming its winning bid for the city’s lighting concession. Worldwide, the Group manages 1.6 million light points.
