ENGIE and Civil Defense teams begin registering the population in areas close to the Passo Fundo Hydropower Plant
In partnership with the Civil Defense team of municipalities in the area of influence of the Passo Fundo Hydropower Plant, ENGIE Brasil Energia will be visiting residents in areas close to plant structures as well as stretches along the Passo Fundo and Erechim rivers to register the population of the region. The survey is part of the initiatives for consolidating the municipalities’ Civil Defense Contingency Plan and the Plant Emergency Action Plan. The activity is designed to identify homes and names of residents located in vulnerable regions subject to flooding, natural inundations or adverse events.
ENGIE has mapped the areas located within a 10-kilometer radius of the Plant using drones to prioritize the identification of residences located in the region. As from November 29, duly uniformed technicians from the Company and the Civil Defense will begin visits and to be conducted during business hours.
In the course of completing the registration, information will be requested on family groups such as the number of people residing in each particular location and their respective ages, if there are residents with special needs or reduced mobility and contact data (landline or cell phone numbers). Numbers of documents, banking details or others that might expose the privacy of those being registered shall not be requested. The understanding of the conditions of each family grouping will be important as a basis for the preparation of both plans, since they will provide the groundwork for establishing actions in situations where warnings have been issued and in the case of emergencies.
Registration is one of the actions for adhering to the National Protection and civil Defense Policy – PNPDEC (Law 12.608/2012) and the National Dam Security Policy (Laws 12.334/2010 and 14.066/2020).
Should there be any questions or need for clarifications on the activities, members of the public may contact the Civil Defense in their municipality or through ENGIE’s communication channel on www.engie.com.br/fale-conosco/.
