ENGIE and AUDI join forces in an electric car project
ENGIE, the Brazilian energy industry’s private-sector leader, active in electric energy generation, energy transmission, energy solutions and gas transportation, has partnered with Audi to install electric car charging centers in Brazil. The project calls for 200 charging points installed until 2022.
“In this moment of electric mobility development, ENGIE celebrates its custom partnership with Audi, showing that we are partners for electric mobility projects in Brazil,” said Mauricio Bähr, CEO of ENGIE Brasil.
The CEO and Chairman of the Board of Audi do Brasil, Johannes Roscheck, confirmed the local arrival of the Audi e-tron, the company’s 100% electric SUV, in the first half of April. “In several surveys that we held on electric vehicles, the recharging infrastructure always emerges as one of the main concerns of potential consumers. This investment is in line with the goal of increasing charging options for the arrival of the Audi e-tron, the brand’s first 100% electric SUV, which will see its first customer deliveries in the first two weeks of April,” the executive stated.
The selected charger model is rated 22 kW, and fire-, shock- and weather-proof. The time needed to fully charge a vehicle’s battery may vary depending on the remaining charge and the vehicle’s AC-mode charging capacity.”
A PROMISING MARKET
There are 7.5 thousand hybrid and electric cars in Brazil at present. The country is expected to have 212 thousand vehicles of this type by 2030, along with 24 thousand chargers in public areas. For Mauricio Bähr, the data indicates that this is a very promising market. “We had a head start by offering a range of products and services for urban mobility, including electric mobility. We are bringing in all of our international experience to better serve our customers whether they may be companies like Audi, airports, shopping malls, or cities that wish to implement electric-car charging systems”.
ENGIE is present in 70 countries and has the world’s largest electric chargers network, with 75 thousand charging states in Europe and the Americas. The Group aims to reach 1 million units worldwide by 2025, contributing to the decarbonization of urban transit.
In the urban mobility area, ENGIE is a partner of the city of Santiago, Chile, where it leases 100 electric buses and installs and maintains the electric charging infrastructure, which is supplied with 100%-certified renewable energy.
According to Bähr, similar alternatives may be used in several cities in Brazil that face goals involving emissions reduction and increased use of electric buses. The Climate Change Law of São Paulo (2018) requires public transport to reach zero emissions by 2037. In Rio de Janeiro, replacement of the fleet with “clean” vehicles will begin in 2025.
Still on the mobility front, ENGIE has partnered with the Niterói city hall, where it has implemented a traffic management system that relies on smart traffic lights at the main crossroads, reducing emissions and improving vehicular flow.
OTHER SOLUTIONS
In addition, ENGIE has a range of solutions involving energy efficiency, energy management, consultancy and monitoring, efficient (LED-based) public lighting, and more. The Company’s products and services aim to rationalize the use of energy and enable the decarbonization of productive processes and distributed solar generation projects.
To illustrate, ENGIE already has over 2,500 distributed solar generation units. The Company also invests in solar communities of up to 5 MW for those lacking rook-space to use solar energy – manufacturers, retailers, and even residential consumers.
