ENGIE introduces initiatives for a carbon-neutral world at innovation event
Holding
ENGIE, Brazil’s largest private-sector energy company, active in electric energy generation, trading and transmission, gas infrastructure, and energy solutions, will discuss how innovation can contribute to a carbon-free world during the ENGIE Brasil Innovation Day. The event will be held online on June 17 and broadcast on ENGIE Brasil’s Youtube channel. In addition to in-house innovation managers and experts, the lineup includes representatives from startups and features economist Ricardo Amorim.
ENGIE’s purpose is to accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral economy. To this end, the Company has been fostering reflection on the topic with its customers and partners. One of its objectives is to find innovative solutions to reconcile economic performance and a positive impact on people and the planet. During the ENGIE Brasil Innovation Day, participants will be able to get a better understanding of innovative initiatives that the Company develops and supports, which currently focus mainly on distributed and shared energy resources, energy efficiency, renewable sources, smart cities, and more.
“The company’s culture is about encouraging not creativity not only across its own teams, but also alongside with universities, research centers and other industry partners. The event reinforces ENGIE’s actions towards promoting dialogue and cooperation between these entities and private enterprise to find innovative and disruptive solutions generating benefits to people and the planet,” said Communication and Corporate Social Responsibility Officer Gil Maranhão.
The seventh edition of the ENGIE Brasil Innovation Day can be watched over the Web. The event will be broadcast starting at 5 p.m. on ENGIE Brasil’s Youtube channel. Viewers must register at www.engie.com.br/innovation-day-2021/ to attend. In addition to managers and experts, the meeting will feature economist Ricardo Amorim. Amorim was named by Forbes magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in Brazil; he has been active in the global financial markets for over 20 years and finds in innovation one of his favorite topics.
The programming will feature four ENGIE-supported projects. They include the Virtual Disaggregator, an electric energy consumption monitoring tool that can help companies save up to 40% on their power bills. Developed by a Santa Catarina startup, the system relies on artificial intelligence to tell, for example, what pieces of equipment are consuming more than they should, helping reduce energy usage and costs.
Another novelty is the Predictive Maintenance Platform, for Air-Conditioning Systems based on Dynamic Digital Twins. Virtual spaces enable improved accuracy calculating a device’s behavior in specific situations. Also on the programming will be Neighborhood Women, a project to support women and build equality within the pandemic context, and the Biodiversity Matrix, which aims to build a corporate program to manage risks, impacts and opportunities as concerns conserving the Brazilian biodiversity throughout the catchment area of the Company’s power generation plant.
ENGIE invests approximately 20 MBRL annually in R&D and Innovation projects. Every initiative abides by a model based on sustainable growth to face the major challenges posed by the energy transition to a low-carbon economy.
“ENGIE takes pride in the partnerships it formed throughout its history in Brazil, together with several research centers and other public- and private-sector organizations with a focus on innovative projects. These initiatives’ results not only helped the Company find solutions to its operational, environmental and socio-economic challenges, but also supported the country’s science and technology progress,” said ENGIE’s Communication and Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, Gil Maranhão.
ENGIE aims and pledges to enhance its actions and strategies to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions, adapting practices and processes to an energy transition scenario in the face of climate change. More than 90% of the Company’s installed capacity in Brazil comes from clean and renewable sources, such as wind, solar, biomass and hydro. To lead the Brazilian energy transition, the company aims to increasingly offer integrated and innovative solutions for people, businesses and cities.
The ENGIE Brasil Innovation Day 2021 has the support of COPPE UFRJ, the National Association of Innovative Projects Promoters (Anprotec), the Santa Catarina State Technology Association (Acate), Firjan, the Brazilian Infrastructure and Basic Industry Association (Abdib), the Acende Brasil Institute, the Certi Foundation, and the France-Brazil Chamber of Commerce.
