The new unit will boost the Company\u2019s renewable energy\u00a0 portfolio and increase supplies to the Free Energy Market.<\/p>\n
The Santo Agostinho Wind Complex represents an estimated investment of about R$ 2.2 billion and should be responsible for the creation of approximately a thousand jobs in the region. It is expected that entry into commercial operations will take place by March 2023.<\/p>\n
The new project underscores ENGIE\u2019s growth strategy and enhances the Company\u2019s position of its Brazilian energy generation output from renewable sources with low greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), these accounting for about 90% of the Company\u2019s installed capacity in the country.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the Santo Agostinho Wind Complex will have an installed capacity of 434 MW with the entire power output being directed to the Free Energy Market. The latter is reporting growth year after year in Brazil, closing 2019 with a volume of operations 6% up on 2018, representing turnover of R$ 134 billion. Again, it is a segment which already accounts for 30% of all electric power consumed in the country, based on \u00a0Brazilian Energy Traders Association (Abraceel) data.<\/p>\n
Three major projects with work in progress <\/strong><\/p>\nIn addition to the Santo Agostinho Wind Complex in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, ENGIE has three major projects\u00a0 with work in progress, important for Brazil\u2019s development, and which will generate more than 10 thousand jobs. Two power transmission lines are under construction (Gralha Azul, in the state of Paran\u00e1, and Novo Estado, in the states of Par\u00e1 and Tocantins), and a wind complex (Campo Largo 2 in the state of Bahia), operations at the latter expected to begin this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
