ENGIE has announced the 28 winners under the Women in our Neighborhood project\u2019s public notice. This involves a network of initiatives for driving actions for generating income and jobs in municipalities where the Company conducts its own business.<\/p>\n

Created to select and support enterprises and initiatives involving female leadership with financial resources, the public notice was published in more than 100 municipalities throughout Brazil including Florian\u00f3polis (the city where the Company has its registered offices) and surrounding metro region. A total of 275 proposals was received from 43 municipalities in 13 states in Brazil of which 206 were elected to compete for awards. The winning 28 initiatives will receive amounts of R$ 5 thousand, R$ 10 thousand or R$ 20 thousand according to the scope of the respective project.<\/p>\n

\u201cENGIE understands that women entrepreneurs with medium and long-term projects need to be supported. So much so that the project\u2019s initiatives are scheduled to continue once the current pandemic is over. This is one more initiative for reinforcing social engagement on the past of the Company and showing that we are at one with our employees, neighboring communities and society as whole in meeting the challenge the country is experiencing in these difficult times\u201d, comments the coordinator for ENGIE Brasil Energia\u2019s Corporate Social Responsibility unit, Luciane Pedro.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In selecting the winners, the impact on family income and on the community and the generation of additional employment was taken into consideration. Following careful analysis by the regional commissions, the evaluation of the finalists\u2019 proposals was conducted by the members of the ENGIE Brasil Energia\u2019s Sustainability Forum, made up of 11 professionals from different areas of the company as well as management from the Environment and Social Responsibility unit.<\/p>\n

The analysis also involved outside invitees, specialists in the areas of social entrepreneurship, female empowerment and gender equality: Fernanda Bornhausen, co-founder and voluntary president of Social Good Brasil, Marina Barbieri, State Coordinator of the Sebrae Delas Program, Evandro Badin, executive director of Junior Achievement for the state of Santa Catarina, and Gabriela Coral, state leader for Santa Catarina in the Justi\u00e7a de Saia<\/em> national movement, set up to combat domestic violence within the scope of the Maria da Penha Law.<\/p>\n

Empowerment of women <\/strong><\/p>\n

Women in our Neighborhood reinforces ENGIE\u2019s adherence\u00a0 to the Women\u2019s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a UNWomen\u2019s initiative, in September 2019. At an investment of approximately R$ 1.5 million between 2020 and 2021, the project aims to impact 20 thousand women directly and 60 thousand people indirectly, contributing to Goal number 5 of the United Nations Sustainable Development\u00a0 Goals (SDGs), with the objective of reaching gender equality and empowerment for all women and girls.<\/p>\n
