ENGIE Brasil has earned its first EDGE Assess Certification for Gender Equity
Holding
ENGIE Brasil, the largest private-sector power company in Brazil, has earned the EDGE Assess certification for the first time. Joining a group of eight Brazilian organizations which have been EDGE certified.
EDGE is the leading global assessment and business certification for gender and intersectional equity. Certification involves a rigorous third-party review of representation across the pipeline, pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices, and inclusiveness of an organisation’s culture. As an integral part of the assessment, statistical data is analysed, policies and practices are reviewed, and employees receive a comprehensive survey to assess their experience in terms of career development opportunities in the current workplace.
ENGIE Brasil certification at the EDGE Assess level means that the organization is well engaged on its journey towards achieving an improved gender balance and takes a pipeline approach to attract, retain, develop, and motivate female talent at different levels of responsibility and in different types of jobs. The EDGE action plan, a vital part of the EDGE Certification journey, highlights ENGIE Brasil commitment to continue strengthening its proactive management of pay equity and improved access for female leadership training, mentoring and flexible working.
“I am very proud that ENGIE Brasil is joining the very special group of companies, including our parent company ENGIE in France, that are evolving their vision of how our industry should look, while shaping a more sustainable future as we accelerate on the energy transition” says Maurício Bähr, ENGIE Brasil Country Manager. “The EDGE Assess Certification means our actions have been following the right course and now, as with the energy transition, we must accelerate to reach the goals we have set for ourselves. These goals used to be called ‘ambitious’ by some in the past, I call them ‘necessary’”.
“ENGIE Brasil looks at gender balance as a cornerstone of its business success” says Aniela Unguresan, Founder of EDGE Certified Foundation. Even though the company operates in an industry with a traditionally male-dominated talent pool, they purposefully and intentionally built a rich pool of female talent and are now at an inflection point towards an improved gender-balance throughout the organization. Their EDGE Assess Certification clearly demonstrates that when there is a will, there is definitely a way”.
